{OOTD} A FIT FOR ALL MONOCHROME

A general rule of thumb that I follow is all about looking expertly tailored, picking out clothes that look flattering on your body type, with it all wrapped together in a bow of confidence. There is however, an easier way to streamline your look; an outfit that you can quickly pull together and walk out the door, knowing at least you look good: It’s the monochrome look.

When weekend or the holiday enters the picture, style inspiration is ripe for the picking. While you could spend hours poring over countless street style photos Amal Saima and I dreamed up three monochrome looks as part of her ‘A Fit For All’ series. When keeping this look chic, we played with length and texture to elevate an otherwise consistent look. I was obviously up to this task.

1. BLANC

Everyone looks good in white in my opinion. Whether you’re slim, toned, or cute, sticking to this single colour is flattering for all.

2. ROUGE

What colour encompasses both power and femininity at the same time more than red? Love how Amal Saima can pull off this colour effortlessly by creating a streamlined silhouette.

3. BLEU
Next to white, the easiest fool-proof mono-look is blue. If you're like me, you can never have enough layers.Just be sure to balance by layering pieces that complement each other.

Yellow for Proceed with Caution

Creamy, with a hell lot of mustard in, like a dessert disaster, is one colour that I am drawn to. I drooled over this long blazer the first time I saw it at the BIFASH event with Ainul and I had to come in the second time to purchase it (took my time drawing a list of WANT vs NEED). ANNDDD because great minds think alike, Ainul even purchased one! 

So what me & Ainul thought of together was how we would incorporate mustard in our daily wear... although in my case I was thinking of how far such colour can be business-appropriate. Granted me and the colour wheel go way back and associating complementary colours together is inherited in my DNA so a very easy formula that I usually work with is pairing neutrals with bright colours. As for Ainul, she pulled off a very chic casual lookbook with an already busy printed shawl.

Undoubtedly blue is my favourite perennial colour especially being back in Brunei I find myself picking out hints of blue for my everyday wear. Perhaps it's the longing for clear blue skies because we are currently experiencing bad weather down here, or the bodily confusion that I should really be by the sea at this instant.

In all seriousness, my good friend Mu'izz has invited me to write a post for a blog that he shares with three others at Wearrior Instinct (which will be posted soon but do check their site out!). I've increasingly been out of the loop when it comes to the art of dressing so this was a bit of a challenge for me. Although it didn't really hurt to do a serious purge on my aunt's closet and singled out an outfit that is both comfortable and makes some kind of statement. 

Lastly, this wouldn't be possible without my friend Daiy for his time and effort to come all the way to Bandar yesterday. He has a keen eye for beauty in the mediocre so I trusted he could take these pictures. And to Aaron for being my everything.

You know what the ingredients are for a really good day? In my book, it's making myself busy doing the things that make me happy. Since the start of January, I've been really occupied and  I still am with uni applications and course-works that I find it really hard to make time for myself. So I've changed my game-plan and decided to actually use my free-time wisely. With the exception of catching up with Modern Family and Mindy Project, of course.

Now I'm finding myself making schedules for things to achieve by the end of each week-like shooting an ootd video with my sister. Which is exactly what we both did. Us being us always sporting a rather potent gravitational field of tomfoolery, we ended up indulging all kinds of tangent like dancing to the macerena resulting to a not-so-serious ootd video.

Bloggers Love Fashion Week '15

A lot has asked me about my experience during Bloggers Love Fashion Week- “How was it?” “Did you fall?” “Was it fun?” “What did you wear?” It was great. No, I didn't fall, thankfully. Yes, it was fun. And something comfortable.

Held in a dated studio at Shoreditch, London, BLFW was organised by the lovely Danielle from the Bloggers Love Hub. It’s back with its third season, and although it was a two-day event, I could only make it to Wednesday’s tea party themed event. I thought the area seemed quite dodgy, not where you expect a fashion event to be located. It wasn’t exactly the most fashionable district. Despite that, the studio gave the perfect ambiance: intimacy. Some would disagree due to the overcrowding but I like the fact that there were personal interactions between brands and bloggers which has a much greater impact.

Models were asked to arrive early, so I got the chance to see brands set up their stations and explore the event before it got busy. There weren’t any perks of being a VIB (very important blogger) and a model because by the time the fashion show ended most of the gifts were gifted by other bloggers. Don't worry I didn't go home empty handed, my gifts consisted of Umberto Giannini Glam Hair spray and Frizzi serum, two Timeless Truth Bio Celllose masks, and Slendertoxtea teabags, acai berry slender shake and slender patch. Also goodies included St Kitts Herbery lotion and perfume, and So-cosmetics body spray. The goodies were far better than LFWend goodies. 

My makeup was done by bubbly 18 year old Laurr and I worked with three friendly models, Anita, Misha and Rosemary. Three designers, Cecille London, Joe Browns and LizaVeta, showcased their SS15 looks and I was delighted to walk down the runway in 3 outfits per brand. Below is a short video I created on my catwalk in the outfits.

Ever since the beau bought my first Airmax, I’m still trying to invest in the sports luxe trend. I knew I wanted to wear my Airforce since I would be doing a lot of walking around London. My version of cute co-ords combine a 90s-style tube skirt and checked bralet top. Ultra clean, but I added a bold vivid outerwear and an embellished clutch because I’m still in love with prints. Something simplistic turned into a tough edge.
