Sweet treats

Take any girl my age and ask for her definition of sweet treats. Some may speak of decadent vices in the form of Laduree assorted macarons of every flavour there is. Whereas I would go for a huge wardrobe of gorgeous bags and shoes. And what would be a huge sweet treat for me is the day that babu would finally say, "yes you can use any of my bags."

Knowing how babu really is, she would never say such sweet things. Only once was I allowed to use one bag from her wardrobe but I didn't take the opportunity because the bag didn't "fit" the occasion. Question: since when do bag sizes matter?

Now the question as to why babu would not let me use her bags is not because she doesn't trust me with things (truthfully no one should ever trust me with their things) but because I don't deserve to flaunt bags that cost more than my rent. Although, most of the time I have the vilest ideas of sneaking out without her noticing that her Chanels are missing. But I guess this is a lesson for me. She never actually buys these bags but they are all gifts from babah since she is making a good job in keeping all of us grounded.

I guess these bags are the special kind of sweet treats. And like every sweet treats, they taste better when you have waited long enough or saved enough to pay your rent!

On a side note, I had a quick lunch at Fish & Co followed by tea at Matadoe with the 2 dapper friends of mine, Mu'izz and Aqil. Coincidentally, all three of us were wearing chinos of the same colour (great minds think alike!). Change of rules: On Tuesdays, we wear beige now.

Canadians for a day

A quick hello and an update of me and Amal R's lunch date at Bistro Chez Fio. Both of us had some real Canadian business on our plates. We started off with a poutine which is just a fancy Canadian way of saying french fries with gravy. I had the Bistro burger whereas Amal had the most expensive meal on the menu - the Salmon burger. RIDICULOUS! good thing she finished it all hehe

As for our outfits, Amal has put up a video of what we wore on our date. Thanks mal!

xx,
ps: Amal has a lovely blog that she updates regularly :) click me

Food diary

In between days and days of not doing anything useful at home, I find myself mostly eating out and about in Brunei. On the very first day I arrived my parents brought me out for sushi and  when you haven't seen a whole table clustered with plates of sushi and unagi for 9 months, there's no better reason to not succumb into gluttony.

Last weekend, we had family-friends visiting us all the way from Kuching. We brought them to our favourite sushi place, Kaizen Waterfront which allows a fabulous view of the kampung ayer. Jokes were exchanged over our dinner table and the night was ended with Uncle Azmi sharing us how babah tried so hard to impress babu when they first started dating (in light of babah having the need to tell everyone about Mr).

Dinner attire: fancy dinner calls for a pair of fancy pants from H&M and my favourite embellished clutch from Accessorize that I rarely go out with!

The day before I had a short catch up session over tea + mud cakes with my favourite girls, Zirah and Fifah at Matadoe. I so did not tell these girls to pose :p

Ending this post with a beautiful laksa:

Gluttony

Last weekend was such a weekend, one so filled with wonderful meals, snowy sights, and wonderful company that I feel I can hardly do the memories justice in simple linguistic devices. The surest way to convey the same delight and happy atmosphere would be to recreate it in more decadent lunches, suppers, and afternoon teas, of course! (yes to more good meals every weekend!)

I started off my Saturday with a much needed afternoon tea at Mrs Bridges with the usual girls and Aziimah. I had the Florentine eggs benedict complemented with a hot cuppa.
And the prolonged wait for the lamb steak for dinner at Toro's nearly made me and Aziimah die of food-induced joy. The words 'juicy' and 'steak' are essentially bedfellows in this case. I can never fault Toro's lamb steak in any respect.

So I am pleading guilty for not going to the gym at all last week and having to end my weekend with this...

Gastronomic Bliss

Because last week's persistent tutorial works and case readings have thwarted myself to partake of proper meals I thought it would be most appropriate to indulge myself with good food over the weekend. By good food I mean home-cooked Italian dinner (this tastebud of mine is missing Fratinis) on a Saturday evening and a not-so-impromptu trip to London for a lobster fix with Amal Raemi the very next day. You can not condone our love for good food, the lobster was worth the value for money!

I had put on my new black hat and trench coat for a good measure and slipped on my Zara studded slippers. It is almost impossible to frown when you have rubies on your feet. Such an outfit seemed to call for making silly jokes over tea (or Bubble tea hehe) and strolling down Portobello Road. Touristy it may be, but it seems almost fitting to wander along the great lengths of Portobello Road window shopping since the weather decided to be extra lovely last Sunday.

Have a lovely weekend!

Winter Diary 1

The first snow has fallen just last week and Leicester is currently resting beneath a powdery blanket of snow, and I am officially in a wintery mode. So I am constantly in pursuit of discovering new small treats (or returning to my favourites).

Although my default mode this winter is to spend more time indoors hibernating but I do occasionally peel myself away for various dates with friends and trips to the cosiest cafes. After having spent long hours playing in the snow last week, me and the girls had hot beverages at Oasis. Now I try not to advocate the practice of forgoing proper food in favour of sugar as a general rule, but sometimes it's more fun to have desserts for lunch.

Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but I'm still a bit challenged when it comes to weather appropriate dressing. I try. Really. I just don't like being told what to do by mother nature.

Hope you all had a good winter break :)
Good night moon

Raspberry Sorbet

Babah took us all out for lunch by the pool last week at the President Wilson Hotel. I never thought that such oasis with a very intimate environment existed in Geneva! The dessert courses are a perfect treat for those with a sweet tooth and the portion is just right. I managed to finish 3 courses of dessert straight after the main entree. Not really something to be proud of...

Love,
A.
